How Much to Pour? Our Signature Drink Estimate for Exceptional Service

Signature cocktails and agua fresca served from a mobile bar

When planning a cocktail hour or hosted bar, one of the most common questions we receive is:
"How much should we plan to serve?"

At Cordial Co., we believe a great beverage experience should feel effortless and inclusive — whether you're serving a sparkling rosé or a hibiscus agua fresca.

That’s why we recommend:

1.5 drinks per guest, per hour of service — for all beverages.

This guideline creates a generous, well-paced experience for everyone — whether they’re sipping Champagne or skipping the alcohol entirely.

Why 1.5 Drinks Per Hour?

This is more than just a formula. It’s a hospitality philosophy:

  • It ensures all guests are well-served — regardless of what’s in their glass.

  • It accounts for variety — some will savor slowly, others may try a few options.

  • It prevents over- or under-buying, especially when offering both alcoholic and non-alcoholic choices.

  • It aligns with elevated pacing — encouraging guests to enjoy, not overindulge.

Real-World Example

Let’s say you’re hosting 100 guests with 4 hours of service:

1.5 drinks x 4 hours x 100 guests = 600 total drinks

If your menu includes wine, beer, one signature cocktail, and two non-alcoholic options:

  • 40% signature cocktail = 240 servings

  • 20% beer = 120 servings

  • 15% wine = 90 servings

  • 25% non-alcoholic = 150 servings
(e.g. cucumber mint lemonade, cold brew coffee, agua fresca)

Need help with the math? Don’t worry — when we plan your event, we break it all down into actual quantities.

Thoughtful Hospitality for All

Whether your guests are raising a glass of bubbly or a zero-proof cocktail, planning with intention ensures everyone feels seen and served.

Tips From the Bar:

  • Welcome drinks (alcoholic or not) count toward your estimate.

  • Non-alcoholic options should be just as considered — they deserve glassware and garnishes, too.

  • Always round up slightly to avoid running low.

  • Planning a dry or mixed-bar event? We’ve done both — beautifully.
